A beautifully mature white Burgundy from one of Meursault's most traditional and long-lived producers. Robert Ampeau became renowned for releasing wines only after extended cellar ageing, allowing them to develop complexity before reaching the market.

The 1996 vintage combines the richness and texture typical of Meursault with remarkable freshness. Aromas of toasted hazelnut, honey, citrus peel and baked apple lead into a layered palate showing notes of buttered brioche, preserved lemon, almond and subtle spice. Despite its age, the wine retains impressive energy and mineral tension, a hallmark of both the vintage and the domaine's ageworthy style. Robert Ampeau's mature Meursaults have developed a cult following for their ability to offer perfectly cellared, ready-to-drink Burgundy direct from the producer's cellars.

Tasting notes:

A great vintage for both red and white wines.  After a warm summer, September was cool and sunny with a north wind that allowed the fruit to ripen slowly but fully.  The long growing season gave wines with complex aromas and flavours that have matured magnificently.  Rich and nutty with ripe fruit and excellent, balancing acidity.
