2020 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova
Tasting notes:
Tenuta Nuova, meaning ‘New Property’, is named after a plot of land which was never planted with Sangiovese previously. In a bid to produce a powerful yet drinkable Brunello with high ageing potential, Casanova di Neri commissioned a study of various micro-climates to find their optimal exposures, and determine the best clones, rootstocks, cultivation practices and plant density to obtain the best Sangiovese grapes. The result is a pioneering expression of a single-vineyard Brunello that embodies the Neri family’s belief, passion and skills. Aged for 35 months in oak barrels and 15 months in bottle. Intense aromas of wild violet, eucalyptus and red currant. Rich and textured on the palate with ripe, smooth and balanced tannins. It shows incredible rigor and definition and has excellent ageing potential.
Producer description:
Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, this estate quickly achieve international acclaims and earned its place amongst the best producers in Brunello. Neri was fascinated by remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese. He found a working farm, Podere Casanova, which, thanks to its altitude, aspect and soil composition, had the potential to make great Brunellos. Today, his son Giacomo runs the estate, alongside his two sons, Giovanni and Gianlorenzo. They own seven vineyards, each having its own identity and planted with Casanova di Neri's own clones of Sangiovevse.
