Tasting notes:

Ca’Marcanda meaning “house of endless negotiations” refers to the many meetings between the previous land owners and the Gaja family. The vineyards lie on white soil rich in limestone, firm clay and stones where Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc thrive. Aged for 12 months in oak and further 6 months in concrete vessels. Intense aromas of blueberry, and raspberry, with a hint of blood orange, licorice and rosemary. Medium to full-bodied and rich on the palate with silky tannins and a medium structure and a saline character.

Producer description:

Gaja goes back to 150 years ago, when the family opened a tavern next to a river port. Now in its fifth generation, Gaja is amongst the most internationally acclaimed name in Italian wine and have elevated Barbaresco to fine-wine status. Known for shunning rules and regulations in favour of quality and innovation, they now also own vineyards in Bolgheri, Tuscany, and produce some stunning ‘Super-Tuscans’.

The 2020 Camarcanda is suave, elegant, and wonderfully expressive... the 2020 is beautifully resonant... without question the finest Camarcanda to date. Bravo.

...Showing youthful primary fruit at this young stage, the wine delivers impressive balance and fruit versus oak integration...Timing the harvest correctly and the careful use of French oak is key to these overall results, especially with regard to the medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and the long silkiness of this age worthy vintage.
