Tasting notes:

The ‘Lieu dit’ was their first single vineyard ever made. Planted with just 1.8 hectares of vines with a northwest exposition, this is a cooler site which results in wine with poise and elegance. Made with 100% Grenache picked early to preserve the freshness, the wine is aged for 18 months in 600-litre demi-muids. Red and black berry aromas with hints of lavender and baking spice. Gently chewy on the palate with great freshness, elegance and a vibrant and long finish.

Producer description:

Domaine des Bosquets was home to the first Gigondas plantings, back in 1376. Their 26 hectares of vines, aged up to 75 years old, lie at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail and are being converted to organic and biodynamic culture. Described by Jeb Dunnuck as “the Chambolle-Musigny of the Rhône”, Domaine des Bosquet has gained widespread acclaim since Julien Bréchet took over the family domaine in 2006. He has identified three distinct soil types at different altitudes within the vineyards which offer potential for varying ripeness levels and fruit characters in the wines.

In the same ballpark, the 2021 Gigondas Le Lieu-Dit is another pretty, floral, incredibly elegant Gigondas that has terrific framboise and strawberry fruits, medium body, silky tannins, no hard edges, lots of spicy, peppery, Provençal garrigue, soft tannins, and outstanding length. It's another beautiful, elegant, seamless Gigondas to enjoy over the coming decade.

Limpid ruby color. Expressive red fruit preserve, lavender and baking spice scents show excellent clarity and pick up a suggestion of incense with air. Gently chewy and lively on the palate. Alluringly sweet cherry, raspberry and spicecake flavors deepen steadily on the back half. It shows impressive concentration but comes off vibrant, finishing extremely long and spicy, with well-judged tannins adding final grip.
