Tasting notes:

Campo di Magnacosta is a 1.5-hectare planted with 100% Cabernet Franc. The parcel sits on gravel and silt on the valley’s bottom, at 400 meters asl, It was planted over 20 years ago with cuttings from a vineyard in Pomerol. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French barrels for 8 months then for 12 months in cement vats. Aromas of blackcurrant, toasted chestnut husk and earthy iris root. Elegant and poised with a compact and dense quality of fruit and pretty mineral tones at the finish.

Producer description:

Located on the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, Tenuta di Trinoro was acquired by Andrea Franchetti in the 1980s. Viticulture never took place before his arrival and no one believed in his project however, he was determined to make world-class wines. By lowering the yields to create deep wines full of flavours, Andrea has achieved his mission and created a true Super-Tuscan which is now sought-after by collectors. Today, his son Benjamin continues his vision. All the wines are biodynamic.

One of three single-vineyard expressions of Cabernet Franc made by Tenuta di Trinoro, the 2022 Campo di Magnacosta is the most mineral driven of the bunch. Grapes come from super high-density, double guyot planting (with 10,000 vines per hectare) on gravel soils. This 1.5-hectare parcel rests at the lowest part of the estate at 400 to 450 meters above sea level with a little stream that runs through the middle. This wine delivers a medium-plus mouthfeel, with tight and vertical aromas of blackberry, crushed granite and a hint of white pepper. The wine ages first in barrique and then in cement. The alcohol pushes high at 15% in this tiny 1,939-bottle release.
