No malolactic fermentation took place. Aged on the lees for nine months. Elegant nose of flowers with hints of honeysuckle, spice, and cinnamon. Medium-bodied with a buttery feel on the palate lifted by a lively freshness.
Producer description:
With over 100 years of wine expertise, Vie di Romans has been consistently producing some of the best Italian whites over the past 30 years. Based in the heart of Friuli Isonzo DOC, the estate has been managed by Gianfranco Gallo since 1978. He has a deep understanding of his vineyards and vinifies each parcel individually, giving Vie de Romans’ wines the stamp of unique personality and a really good reputation in the region. Gianfranco does not allow for the malolactic fermentation to take place but ages his whites on the lees to add texture. He also ages them in the bottle for several months before release, so they can be enjoyed right away.

The 2022 mixes richness with energy and savory with sweetness, as crushed yellow apples and gingery spice combine with minty herbs and wet stone. This is soothingly round and enveloping, quite textural, with waves of ripe green melon and mineral-tinged apricots coasting across a stream of zesty acidity. It finishes youthfully tense, structured and spicy with hints of baked pear and cardamom that resonate

With nine months of élevage on the lees in barrique, the 2022 Friuli Isonzo Chardonnay Vie di Romans is a generous white with plenty of fruit weight. Prominent aromas of ripe peach and orchard fruit steal the show, but there are sweet notes of calla lily and hibiscus. There is even a savory hint of lavender, but the wine ends on a decidedly sweet note with a 14.5% alcohol content. Both attest to the hot 2022 growing season. This is an ample production of 66,500 bottles
