Tasting notes:
Sourced from two vineyards at 1400m asl on deep calcareous soils. Fermented with wild yeasts and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (35% new). Aromas of citrus and tropical fruit with notes of hazelnut and almond. Medium-bodied and slightly creamy on the palate with saline notes.
Producer description:
Adrianna Catena, daughter of Nicolas Catena, and Catena Zapata’s head winemaker Alejandro Vigil founded this winery in 2010. Located in Luján de Cuyo, the vineyards are at an altitude between 900 and 1,500m above the sea. They first focussed on growing Cabernet Franc, atypical for the region, and named of the winery ‘El Enemigo’ which means the enemy. Their efforts were rewarded with both the 2013 and 2019 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary receiving the perfect 100 points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
