Tasting notes:

Aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months with a high proportion of new oak. Complex and intense aromas of fresh black fruit alongside notes of violet, liquorice, graphite, damson, juniper berries, dark chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. Powerful and precise on the palate with smooth tannins and a juicy mouthfeel. Angelus is an intense expression of St Emilion and will keep for two decades.

Producer description:

Ch Angelus is one of the four St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A. Located in a natural amphitheatre on a south-facing slope of Saint-Emilion, where the soil is naturally drained, both Cabernet Franc and Merlot thrive on the estate. Since the 1960s, the wine has become an iconic Bordeaux easily recognised by the bell featuring on the label which recalls the call to prayer, a monastic custom which dates back to the 11th century. The estate has been in the hands of the Boüard de Laforest family since the 18th century. Eighth generation Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal took over from her father in 2012, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, and now run the estate. To preserve the long-term future of the vineyard and its environment, the team at Angelus always search to optimize resources and enhance biodiversity.
