Tasting notes:

The best wines are selected for Château Haut-Brion and matured in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months with a percentage of new oak varying year on year. Elegant and complex, the grand vin presents mineral aromas and a unique complexity. Its strength lays in the finish, which is surprisingly long.

Producer description:

Château Haut-Brion is the only Premier Grand Cru Classé that is not located in the Médoc but in Pessac-Leognan. Vines were planted here over 2000 years ago by the romans who could already see the benefits of the tiny quartz pebbles called “graves” (gravel) which compose the soil. The estate today spreads across 51 ha of vines with an excellent orientation and slopes ensuring natural drainage. One of the particularities at Haut Brion is to frequently rack the Grand Vin “à l’esquive” (through the small bunghole at the base of the barrel) during the maturation. This is a meticulous process that gently oxygenates the wines and forms its character.
