Tasting notes:

Montfortino is produced only in the very best of vintages and aged at least 7 years in large oak 'botti'. Elegant, complex and extremely precise and powerful at the same time. With time it will show aromas of dried rose, licorice, tar, spice and tobacco show immense definition and focus. It will require 10 years to start revealing itself and can keep for 30 years. Absolutely stunning.

Producer description:

Giacomo Conterno created this estate in 1963 after he parted ways from brother Aldo to create his own style of Barolo. The estate is located just outside Monforte d'Alba and is now run by third generation Roberto. He uses traditional winemaking techniques and farms his vines organically to produce long-lived, earthy wines. The estate is most renowned for single vineyard Cascina Francia and Monfortino Riserva, which is regarded as one of the finest Barolos produced today.
