2016 Chateau Pedesclaux
Tasting notes:
Aged for 18 months in 60% new and 40% one-year-old French oak. Aromas of crushed red and black berry fruits with notes of cigar, new leather, pencil lead and crushed rocks. The palate is medium to full-bodied, elegant, fresh and lively with smooth tannins, mineral notes and a lovely earthy finish.
Producer description:
One of Pauillac’s under-the-radar estates, Ch. Pédesclaux is located near 1st growth Ch. Mouton Rothschild and “super-second” Ch. Pontet-Canet. The property was founded by Urbain Pédesclaux in the early 19th century and was granted the title of Fifth Growth in 1855. In 2009, Françoise and Jacky Lorenzetti acquired the estate and purchased new parcels. They now own 50 hectares of vines which underwent significant work with soil studies and replanting. In 2014, Ch. Pédesclaux opened a new chapter, with vineyards fully restructured and an impressive new gravity-fed winery and cellaring facilities. This is now unquestionably on the upswing.
