Top 10 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione: Ipsus 2020 comes first

psus 2020 came first in Vinum's Top 10 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione competition. Also worth noticing, Vicoregio 2021 came 5th. These are two fantastic results for the Mazzei family!

Ipsus 2020

Ipsus is the latest project of Giovanni Mazzei. Only in its fifth vintage, this single vineyard has already swooped fantastic accolades. The 2020 has received a double 100 points from Jane Anson and The Drinks Business as well as 99 points from James Suckling.

Ipsus is sourced from Il Caggio, a 6.5 hectares of vines located on the ridge of a sun-drenched hill in Castellina in Chianti. Situated at an altitude of 310 and 361 meters above sea level, the vineyards benefit from a southeast and southwest exposition. The soil is composed mainly of calcareous clay and marly limestone from the Upper Cretaceous era.

70% of the wine is aged in tonneaux (100% new), 20% in 15 hectolitre barrels, and 10% in ceramic vats for 26 months. Then, the wine spends a further 7 months in ceramic and 16 months in bottle. Only 4,500 bottles are produced on average each year. Request an allocation.

Vicoregio 36 2021

Made in Castello di Fonterutoli, this Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a true experimental vineyard planted with 36 biotypes of Sangiovese.
It has recently earned its own UGA, Castelnuovo Berardenga, which sits between 300m and 350m above sea level, the lowest part of the estate. The vineyard benefits from a south-east and south exposure and is composed of a mix of chalk, clay and limestone soils.

Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new) and a further five months in cement vats. Only 13,200 bottles are made. Secure your allocation.
