An exceptionally mature Premier Cru Burgundy from the historic cellars of Robert Ampeau & Fils, a domaine renowned for its unique practice of releasing wines only after decades of bottle ageing. The result is a rare opportunity to enjoy perfectly cellared mature Burgundy exactly as the producer intended.
Clos du Roi is one of Beaune's most distinguished Premier Cru vineyards, known for producing wines of structure, longevity and aromatic complexity. The acclaimed 1996 vintage, celebrated for its freshness and ageing potential, has evolved beautifully over time. Aromas of dried cherry, cranberry, rose petals and forest floor are layered with notes of leather, tobacco, truffle and subtle spice. The palate is refined and savoury, with vibrant acidity supporting mature red fruit, earthy nuances and silky tannins that have softened gracefully with age.
Now entering a magnificent stage of maturity, this wine showcases the elegance and complexity that only decades of careful ageing can deliver.
Tasting notes:
One of the earliest ripening sites in the Côte d’Or and the splendid summer weather gave a lovely, sunny, warm wine with magnificent, meaty aromas. Has excellent structure and finishes sweet and generous.
