A mature red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune's most distinctive traditional domaines. Robert Ampeau & Fils became famous for extended bottle ageing in their own cellars, releasing wines only when they had begun to reveal their full character and complexity.

The excellent 2002 vintage produced wines of remarkable balance, purity and longevity. After more than two decades of maturation, this Pommard displays aromas of dried cherry, wild strawberry, forest floor, leather and autumn leaves, supported by subtle notes of spice, tobacco and earthy minerality. The palate is elegant and refined, with softened tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish that highlights the mature character of fine Burgundy.

While Pommard is traditionally known for producing some of Burgundy's more structured red wines, extended ageing has transformed this example into a beautifully nuanced and expressive Pinot Noir, ready to enjoy now.

Tasting notes:

Michel Ampeau’s Pommard is the most full-bodied red wine in the cellar.  Rich and gamey with firm but ripe tannins, generous fruit and a persistent aftertaste.
