Tasting notes:

Sourced from a single vineyard named Monte Lodoletta. Aged in new barrels for about 18 months and a further 36 months in the bottle. Complex aromas of kirsch, blackberry, dried mint and eucalyptus and hints of minerals, earth and smoke. Full-bodied, powerful, vibrant concentrated and precise with sculpted tannins well-balanced with an elegant acidity.

Producer description:

Romano dal Forno is undoubtedly one of the most respected and sought-after producers in Veneto. The wines made here are some of the deepest, richest, and most age-worthy expressions in the region, while maintaining elegance and freshness. It all started in 1983, when Romano decided to make his own wine, instead of selling the grapes from the family’s vineyards. Mentored by the great Giuseppe Quintarelli, he learnt the craft as he went along and has become the leader of Verona's new wave of winemaking. His wines deserve their place in the very finest cellars of the most discerning collectors.

Wafting up with lovely floral perfumes, the 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella is impossible to ignore, as a bouquet of dusty rose and lavender complements crushed blackberries and hints of sweet smoke. This is pure energy, seamless and silky with cooling acidity and mineral tones that unlock depths of tart wild berry fruit. A bitter twang of dark chocolate saturates the palate. The 2018 is an understated beauty. While structured, its tannins are dusty and fine, creating a web of youthful restraint as suggestions of mocha and clove slowly fade. This is the first vintage of Amarone that was able to take advantage of Dal Forno’s newest acquisition, just a kilometer from the estate—a site with Pergola-trained vines that average forty years old. Bottled in 2021.”
