Tasting notes:

Sourced from Mosconi hamlet in Monforte d'Alba which is composed of marl and white tuffo soils. Fermented with indigenous yeasts without using sulfites and aged for at least 18 months in small oak barrels in contact with the lees to add texture to the wine. Complex aromas of red berry, mocha and leather with hints of sage, rosemary and graphite, typical to this vineyard. Rich and full-bodied on the palate with sweet tannins.

Producer description:

The Parusso family story is one of passion and a constant desire to improve through experimentation. Their dedication to craft their wines has driven them to rediscover knowledge, traditions, and the ancient vineyard arts of their ancestors. It all started in 1901, when Gaspare Parusso purchased the first family plot, Mariondino. 120 years on, they have evolved from farmers to vintners and now own 28 hectares of vines. One of Barolo’s rising stars, Parusso is known for making approachable and age worthy Nebbiolos and are now competing with the best.

Critic Scores

Vinous | 94

The 2019 Barolo Mosconi is a deep, powerful wine. Huge swaths of tannin are pretty overpowering at this stage. The again, this is Mosconi, where Barolos are typically quite potent. It will be interesting to see if the fruit emerges over time. Dark plum, menthol, leather, sage and graphite lend character. I suspect the 2019 will be stellar if given the time to come together

Robert Parker | 96

Showing a medium-dark garnet color, the Parusso 2019 Barolo Mosconi (with 5,500 bottles made) reveals some of those distinctive aromas of skins and stems that are the hallmark of the house style. These give the wine a broader and richer profile that fits well in a generally more concentrated vintage such as this. Red rose petal, crème de cassis and dried cherry skin emerge from the bouquet. This wine promises a long aging evolution.

James Suckling | 94

A fresh and fluid Mosconi with dried flowers, light plum and sliced strawberry character. Medium body. Creamy tannins and a silky finish. Seductive. Drink after 2026.
