2020 Montevertine Rosso
Tasting notes:
Montevertino is the second wine of the estate and is more accessible in its youth. Aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak. Warm on the nose with aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and fine undergrowth with hints of green pepper. Vibrant on the palate with well-defined crisp fruit and a long finish. It will keep for 15 to 20 years depending on the vintage.
Producer description:
Sergio Manetti founded Montevertine in 1967 in Radda, one of the highest and rockiest sites of Chianti Classico which was considered one of the trickiest places to ripen grapes. Today, however, the area benefits of the longest growing seasons of the region. Due to the old Chianti DOC rules which required the addition of white grapes in the blend, Manetti does not label his cult wines as Chianti Classico, but they are amongst the most sought-after by collectors across the globe. Oenologist Paolo Salvi now also takes care of the winemaking and has been careful to preserve his predecessor’s methods.
