Tasting notes:

Instantly enjoyable, versatile and playful, Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is all about conviviality. Partly aged in concrete tanks and in oak barrels previously used for Ornellaia for 10 months. Aromas of ripe cherry and blackberry with hints of black pepper. Generous and full-bodied on the palate with smooth and enduring tannins well balanced by an upbeat freshness.

Producer description:

Ornellaia is a leading name in the Italian wine industry. Founded by Lodovico Antinori, this iconic estate is known for its refined and opulent wines which reflect Bolgheri’s unique terroir. The team’s commitment to quality, innovation, and the expression of terroir is absolute. They believe their wines should reflect the distinct character of a vintage and the identity of the vineyard. Alongside top cuvee Ornellaia, they produce Le Serre Nuove, Le Volte and a white named Poggio alle Gazze.

A blanket of crushed rose petals on the opening beats, good lift and freshness here, love the raspberry fruits. This is a great value entry to the Ornellaia range, and more appealing than many Super Tuscans that are many times the price - a real buy, and one of the secrets of Tuscany in my opinion. Earthy, spicy, fruity, fresh, neutral barrels for 10 months. Lighter bottle as of this 2023 vintage.

The 2023 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a total delight. Fresh, aromatic and vibrant, Ornellaia’s Sangiovese-based blend delivers the goods in an affordable package. A burst of bright, red-toned fruit opens first, followed by scents of tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. This classy, polished red is very nicely done. There’s a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend these days, and it works quite well.
