2023 Morgon Cote du Py
Tasting notes:
The ‘Côte du Py’ is a slope that benefits from a south facing exposition and lies on one of the few outcrops of the region's decomposed blue rock. The wines made here have greater structure than most Beaujolais. Aged in concrete vats for 12 months. Medium-bodied with concentrated blackberry fruits and notes of minerals, this is a fresh, balanced and vibrant wine. A stunning Morgon which exemplify why Burgaud is held in such high esteem.
Producer description:
Born and bred in Morgon, Jean Marc Burgaud, aka ‘Monsieur Côte du Py’, is a dedicated winemaker who established his estate in 1989. His vines are 50 years old on average and planted at high densities to concentrate the flavours. As per tradition in Beaujolais, Jean Marc ferments his grapes using the whole cluster with indigenous yeasts. He practices minimal intervention and ages his wines for up to 16 months in concrete or used oak vats so they stay true to their terroir. All organic, his wines are precise and utterly delicious.
