Tasting notes:

Granato is full-bodied, harmonious and deep. It reveals itself as the aromas come into focus: wild berries and candied fruit make way for roasted hazelnuts, baked bread, leather, eucalyptus and pomegranate, then the full robust palate shows plenty of temptingly chewy flesh.

Producer description:

One of the key figures of Biodynamic wines in Trentino, Elisabetta Foradori is deeply attached to her native land. She owns 26 hectares in the Dolomite where she grows some of the oldest varietals to be found in Italy. Her signature wine is Teroldego, a red grape she brought back from the brink.

Critic Scores

Vinous | 94

Dark as night, the 2021 Teroldego Granato smoulders from the glass with an array of crushed ash stones and earthy tones that give way to black raspberry, mentholated herbs and exotic spices. Silky smooth yet full of savoury tension, it sweeps across the palate with tart wild berries and acidic citrus driven by vibrant acidity. The 2021 leaves the senses in primary concentration with a tart blackberry core and edgy tannins that continue to rumble. This particularly intense and tight-knit Granato will pay dividends in the cellar.

Wine Spectator | 94

A graceful, enticing red, with aromas of violet, graphite and cigar box spices wafting through flavors of pureed blackberry and mulberry, rooibos tea leaf, plum skin and pomegranate seed. Long and supple, with seamless integration of the fine, lightly chalky tannins and bright acidity with the expressive profile. The lasting finish echoes floral and spice details."

James Suckling | 95

Engagingly fresh nose with white pepper, stems, blue fruit, longyan and some fine geraniums. Really crunchy and fresh on the palate with a linear medium body and pure dark cherry fruit. Chalky, firm tannins round it off before a pure-fruit finish. Long and succulent."
