Tasting notes:

Single vineyard Pinot Noir planted in 1932 on a land layered with clay, sand and pebbles. This is the most structured of all Chacra’s wines. Aged in 50% concrete vats and 50% used French oak barrels for 19 months. Aromas of cherry and red berry fruit with hints of toasted spice and mineral. Fresh and soft on the palate with velvety tannins and a mineral-tinged finish. Enjoyable in its youth however, it is meant to be aged.

Producer description:

Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of Sassicaia's creator, saw the potential of the Mainque area and founded Chacra in 2003. Helped by fantastic Burgundian winemaker Marc Roulot, Piero produces pure, savoury and elegant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Due to the nature of the environment, the vines are naturally strong and need minimal intervention. All wines are biodynamic and have a natural acidity. Enjoyable in their youth they can also age gracefully and have been scoring consistently high. Pure, savoury and elegant, they are a serious contender for Burgundy.

Violets, black cherries, raspberries, crushed stone and orange blossoms. Notes of flower stems, dried sand and bark. Medium- to full-bodied with layers of fine tannins that fill the mouth, giving a crunchiness and open chewiness that reminds me of fine cashmere. Bright and lively. At the end it’s like a freshly cut orange just at the right ripeness.
